Funky Urban Design: ‘Volkshotel’ In Amsterdam
Hotel for the people
End of June, the ‘Volkshotel’ opened its doors. Architect Steven Steenbruggen has made the design to convert the old Volkskrant office into a hotel. And very successful. The very urban looking hotel seems to blends a sort of Dutch and Berlin kind of interior design – raw, urban, industrial, funky. Not only the interior but the price tag is also very, very tempting! Plus it declares on its website that it is a hotel for biologists, night bloomers , for stockbrokers and punk rockers, for dandies and poets, single moms, for dishwashers and artists – it is a hotel for people. Which actually means ‘Volkshotel’ in its literal translation. Even in German it means ‘Hotel for the People’.
It alwasy tricky it can get to find a good, nice and affordable hotel, especially if you embark on a weekend city trip to one of the European cities and you don’t want to blow your budget on hotel accommodation. Well, if you happen to plan a trip to Amsterdam any time soon, the new ‘Volkshotel’ is definitely a hotel to look at for your stay. We are sure that is a great place to be and explore Amsterdam.
