D’SIGN’s Favourites: Fior d’olio by Marta Sansoni for Alessi
Green Gold for your kitchen
Intriguing this oil bottle called “fior d’olio” and designed by Marta Sansoni in 2014, for Alessi. “Fior d’olio” is a bottle stopper with pouring spout that fits into the neck of a bottle, allowing you to pour only as much as you need on your food. The name “fior d’olio” is a little iconic technical gem for “green gold”, another name for olive oil, the main staple of Italian cuisine as we know it.
“Fior d’olio” has a dual function: the glass container can be used for tasting oil, while the pouring spout, in 18/10 stainless steel with a polished finish, can seal bottles of olive oil used on a daily basis. The glass container for tasting is tapered towards the mouth of the glass so that the aroma of the oil wafts towards the nose. The green color is strongly suggestive of first press oil and hides the contents in order to prevent the appearance of the oil influencing the taster’s assessment. The oil bottle is a small domestic invention and the perfect gift for gourmets enthusiasts.
