Design: Aqua table by Zaha Hadid
Iconic contemporary table with sleek design
Aqua table is designed by Zaha Hadid for Established & Sons is an iconic of contemporary furniture design. The enigmatic liquid form of the Aqua table awakens one’s curiosity. The user is invited to explore the forces of motion that created such a form. Rather than being static, it implies motion by adopting the dynamic gestures of liquid to form a continuous surface. The asymmetrical, irregular tabletop’s varying edges creates an ergonomic solid that offers endless relationship possibilities with its user and its environment.
The Aqua table is blurring the relationship between the horizontal top and vertical legs. The three blisters bulging out to form legs below the table surface register as indentations at the top surface, these register as indentations on the gently undulating tabletop. The translucent silicon gel of the tabletop surface has a smooth top with 3 deformities on its lower side. Gradual alterations in the colour of the tabletop reflect these deformities, creating a surreal visual effect that draws us to explore the difference between the actual/perceived depth of the pad by touching the surface to reveal its true nature.
The table comes in both satin matt and high-gloss hand finishes. It’s available in black and white finishes but there also was a limited series of red tables.
