We Go Dutch: Ted Noten designer of 2012
Designer of the year 2012
Designer Ted Noten has been named Artist of the Year 2012. The prize includes a cash prize of €10,000.Noten was selected from eight finalists. He gained fame with his jewellery and handbags designs containing various objects, a pinch of cocaine, precious rings, a dead mouse with a tiny pearl necklace and real guns are used. He also made a tiara (crown type) for Princess Maxima as protection from rioters.
This year, the Artist of the Year election received almost 40,000 votes. It is not surprising that many were praising him. Some opinions: “Ted Noten” always knows to surprise. He makes jewellery that is much more than decorations, they are an expression of his view of the world around us. Often a statement with humour and (self) reflection. “” Original, unusual, dare boundaries. “,” The naked emotion associated with craftsmanship. I love the work of this man. ‘”Ted loves women and renews the design – and vice versa!”
In the second place finisher photographer Erwin Olaf, followed by artist Marlene Dumas. They all are included in the so-called Gallery of Contemporary Artists, a list for the 100 most annual respected artists are listed. Previously winners, included Sam Drukker (2011), Ans Markus (2009/2010) and Corneille (2003) Artist of the Year. (AFP / Editorial)
