Event: Iris van Herpen wins Dutch Design Award
Overall winner in Eindhoven
The young fashion designer Iris van Herpen’s Saturday become the overall winner of the Dutch Design Awards held in Eindhoven. The 29-year-old Dutch was chosen as the best from all categories. Van Herpen received the Dutch Design Award for her collection Voltage, clothing made with a 3D printer. The jury was impressed by its interdisciplinary approach and praises its cooperation efforts. ‘Van Herpen with Voltage gives a view into the future of fashion. With her designs she leaves as no other see what is happening in the Netherlands at the moment.”
Voltage is the fourth haute couture collection by Iris van Herpen, where she has looked into “the power of the body” either the strength and body movement. The collection has a si-fi feeling and is very extravagant. In the designs is good to see that electricity was a source of inspiration. The points seem to give light and give you the feeling of projecting energy. Voltage brings with Iris van Herpen again different worlds together: architecture, technology, fashion and 3D printing. Its connection strength and crossover approach is greatly appreciated by the committee. This is what we want to see in the world: designers working together. In addition, the result is astonishing.
