Design: Elements of Time by Nynke Koster
Elements of Time create a overview of style period’s
“Elements of Time is a collection of stools by Nynke Koster, Her designs brings art and architecture together. For the collection, she searched for architectural ornaments and made moulds of various building elements. The four stools are part of a time-line, consisting of fragments of architectural ornaments.
That way an extension of the collection, is an extension of the time-line and over time create a complete 3D overview of the various architectural style period’s. The collection will represents the ornaments and their history from then until now.
Nynke Koster (1986) graduated in 2013 from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KABK) in The Hague. After having studied interior design it turned out that her heart lays in furniture design and visual arts. This combination is forms the basis for her collection ‘Elements of Time’.
Elements of Time is a continuation of her graduation project Coexist. Where she made copies of the famous doors “Porta del Paradiso in the academy in The Hague. The question arises by Coexist whether the contra moulds are autonomous objects (negatives) from the building or the have become an object to use, furniture.
By Coexist the copies where only once producible and therefore not very practical, that makes Coexist more inclined to art then furniture. By Elements of Time the stools are made of rubber and foam and can be produced several times. And for example the Baroque ceiling and Art Nouveau elements are very comfortable to sit on. By making the memory of historic buildings tangible, gives Nynke a new meaning to architecture.
