Containers II by Studio Job at design Miami
Studio job: showcase of new pieces
For Design Miami 2011, Galerie VIVID of Rotterdam realized its second solo presentation with works by Studio Job. The main attraction of the presentation are five new unique pieces, called ‘Containers II”. In 2010 Studio Job made ‘Piece for Peace’ in association with the world famous Belgian crystal producer Val Saint Lambert. This unique show piece was designed for the Cabinet of Van Rompuy, President of the European Council in Brussels. to provide a sculpture that finds its place in the room where the President take its pose with the visiting Governments.
During this period Job Smeets and Nynke Tynagel discovered a large storage with over hundred years old, hand-blown crystal pieces that were never crafted into a product. They decided to breathe new life into the objects. Studio Job selected five old vessels and designed a new series of unique pieces they called ‘Containers II’ and are full of paradoxes, the functional and the surreal, good and evil, large and small, rich and poor, beautiful and ugly, high culture and low scene. to individualize each piece, the original crystal has been colored and intricately cut, offering a rich textured surface, while polished and patina bronze elements have been added to characterize the works according to their proposed functions. the completed sculptural containers are exhibited on a high gloss white and gold gilded wood pedestal. The serie “Containers II” includes a Coffee Pot, Waste Basket, Saucepan, Picklehaube and a Stewpan on high gloss laquered pedestals.
Studio Job is an art and design collective, led by Job Smeets (1970) and his partner Nynke Tynagel (1977). The designers have an office in Antwerpen.
