Architecture: Tori – Tori Restaurant by Rojkind Arquitectos & Esrawe Studio

Project: Taking the inside out

The changing district of Polanco in Mexico is witnessing many of its houses being converted into offices or restaurants what virtually not always being noticed on the outside. With the project proposed for Tori Tori, the most popular Japanese restaurant of the Mexican capital, Rojkind Arquitectos & Esrawe Studio will break with the local standard, delivering a visually strong and very attractive building. Together they wanted to give enough strength to the new program that they proposed to transform the space inside out. Design with light and atmosphere that is enriched by a spectrum of subtle changes.

The façade of the building and landscape were carefully designed in a lilac to become an extension of the restaurant, creating a strong relationship between interior and exterior. And giving Tori Tori an atmosphere which is enriched by a spectrum of changes. With the pattern of openings in the façade that responded, filtering the light, shadows, and perspectives that will constantly invade the interior space, creating a strong relationship between interior and exterior.

Maintaining a very intimate and subtle feel towards the first encounter with the out site, after entering, the visitor will find himself in a terrace, embraced by natural vegetation. And the seductive interior, with its specially created furniture and very ‘nature’ spirit. with its organic lines enhanced by a remarkable lighting. Each room has its own nature and shows a clear relationship to its function. The tables and chairs that are part of the furnishings are clearly inspired by Tori Tori, was developed with the direct guidance through each space.
